In the News: The Russian Academy of Sciences

There is an interesting article in today's Washington Post on the Russian Academy of Sciences. It seems that the age-old conflict between the academicians and their political leadership has arisen once again. In Euler's time, the Academy faced similar conflicts, most significantly in the aftermath of the 1741 revolt against the Leopoldovna regency. See our St. Petersburg page for details.
